Interview Process And Preparation
The firm describes its recruiting process as designed to learn about experience, technical skills, career aspirations, perspective and personal goals. It does not publish one universal interview sequence for every practice. [A7]
Preparation should be practice-specific. Turnaround candidates need cash, accounting, business-plan and capital-structure reasoning. Investigations and disputes candidates need evidence, valuation, accounting and economics. eDiscovery candidates need data and systems integrity. Risk Analytics candidates need SQL and reproducible analysis. Strategy candidates need structured problem solving and implementation awareness.
Across all paths, candidates should prepare one project where the initial conclusion was wrong or incomplete. AlixPartners’ work often occurs under uncertainty and time pressure; the ability to revise a view after evidence changes is more credible than a story where the candidate was always correct.
Is it a fit?
Fit and trade-offs
AlixPartners is a strong fit for students who want direct exposure to difficult financial, legal, data or operating problems and are comfortable choosing a specialty earlier than at a generalist consulting firm.
For finance and accounting students, Turnaround & Restructuring offers an apprenticeship in liquidity, bankruptcy, business plans and stakeholder decisions that is difficult to replicate in a generic strategy internship. Investigations, Disputes & Economics can be attractive to economics, finance, math and data students who like evidence-intensive work. eDiscovery and Digital Forensics can fit information-systems and computer-science students who prefer investigative technology to product engineering.
Intensity. High-stakes restructuring, litigation and transaction work can create deadlines outside a predictable schedule. A student who wants a tightly bounded nine-to-five internship should investigate this carefully.
A second downside is specialization. Someone who wants broad corporate strategy may prefer another firm. Someone interested in direct investing should remember that AlixPartners advises investors and portfolio companies but does not become the investment owner.

At a glance
Evidence snapshot: 2026-09-04. This is a dated research summary, not a live vacancy feed.
Pay: No defensible role-specific amount established.
Prepare: Use cash-flow analysis for T&R, auditable data for risk/forensics, and evidence-backed valuation or economics for disputes.
Company and operating model
AlixPartners positions itself as results-oriented and senior-led, with an emphasis on moving from diagnosis to implementation. Its current services combine classic consulting with turnaround, investigations, disputes, transaction work, operating improvement, digital and technology delivery. [A1][A2]
That breadth matters because the client situation changes the junior professional’s job. A Strategy & Analysis team can assess a market, growth question or transformation. A Turnaround & Restructuring team can work on liquidity, business plans, liabilities, bankruptcy processes and stakeholder decisions. Risk Advisory can involve economic analysis, investigations, valuations, litigation, eDiscovery, digital forensics or large data sets. Performance & Technology can work on operating improvements, technology, data or implementation.
The public careers materials also emphasize that there is no single fixed career path. Early-career professionals are encouraged to own workstreams and develop through experience, coaching and formal programs. [A8]
Undergraduate Turnaround & Restructuring
A student should not treat these as the same apprenticeship. Restructuring Advisory is closer to corporate finance, turnaround strategy and stakeholder decision support. Bankruptcy Case Management is closer to the mechanics and administration of the court-supervised process. Both require accuracy and judgment, but the deliverables differ.
Preparation for Restructuring Advisory should include the three financial statements, cash flow, working capital, liquidity, debt and scenario analysis. A strong candidate should be able to explain why a profitable business can still run out of cash and how timing, covenant, financing, supplier or customer behavior affects options.
Preparation for Bankruptcy Case Management should add an understanding of process, documentation and deadlines. Candidates do not need to act like lawyers, but they should be comfortable working carefully around claims, reporting, filings, stakeholders and procedural requirements.
Risk Advisory: Investigations, Disputes And Economics
The work rewards evidence discipline. A candidate should show that they can reconcile facts, analyze data, test alternative explanations and communicate a conclusion that can withstand scrutiny. A useful preparation example is a damages or valuation analysis where the student explains what data are missing, what assumptions drive the answer and what evidence would change the conclusion.
This is not ordinary management consulting. The audience can include lawyers, regulators, clients and experts. Documentation, source quality and defensibility matter as much as presentation quality.
Risk Advisory: Ediscovery & Digital Forensics
A candidate should not interpret “Digital Forensics” as a generic software-engineering internship. The work can involve data collection, evidence preservation, investigation, legal technology and analytics. Strong evidence includes a data pipeline, forensic or cybersecurity project, research workflow, database project or systems investigation where the student can explain completeness, integrity and auditability.
Risk Advisory: Risk Analytics And Data Science
The distinction between undergraduate Risk Analytics and master’s Data Science should remain visible. A student should not assume the same degree requirements or compensation structure across both.
Strong preparation includes SQL, data cleaning, reproducible transformations, statistical reasoning and the ability to reconcile numbers back to source systems. In high-stakes disputes, a model that cannot be audited is a liability.
MBA Strategy & Analysis
This program should not be used to describe undergraduate recruiting. MBA timing, travel, compensation and responsibilities can differ. It does, however, show how the firm thinks about general consulting development: one project team, ownership, coaching and direct client work.
MBA Turnaround & Restructuring
Again, this is not undergraduate eligibility evidence. It is useful as a view into the firm’s market-leading restructuring platform and the distinction between general Strategy & Analysis and specialized turnaround work.
Performance & Technology And Operating Improvement
Candidates interested in operations should prepare cost, capacity, supply chain, working capital and implementation examples. Technology candidates should be ready to explain systems, data, cybersecurity, automation or implementation. Strategy candidates should show market and business-model reasoning plus an understanding of how recommendations become measurable change.
Before accepting the assignment
Ask which workstream an intern owns and how review and training continue when the client timetable becomes urgent.
