Pay, location and conditions

No verified internship wage figure is provided. Travel or lodging reimbursement in one Japanese account should not be confused with salary or assumed available for a different country or cohort. Confirm compensation, reimbursable expenses, payment timing, attendance, and required school documentation before accepting.

Company brief: power, analog, and the manufacturing behind them

The relevant starting question is where the student wants to contribute. A device-development project, a power-converter application, a manufacturing-automation project, and a technical-marketing assignment produce different outputs. A strong application connects an actual project to one of those outputs instead of making a general statement about the importance of semiconductors.

There is also a company-identity issue. ROHM's official history says its domestic manufacturing-related companies were reorganized in April 2026 into ROHM Device Manufacturing and ROHM Assembly Manufacturing. Older subsidiary names may remain in university pages or archived job listings. Preserve the source date and confirm the employing entity rather than count every old company name as a new, independent recruiting program. [S2]

Regional recruiting routes

ROHM's global careers page routes candidates to Japan, the Americas, Europe, and Asia. The US jobs page says candidates should apply to posted positions through the online system and that unsolicited resumes are not accepted. A general expression of interest is therefore not a substitute for the required US application route. [S1, S5]

The official international-student recruiting page says applicants seeking employment in Japan follow the same selection process as domestic students and should consult the new-graduate requirements. That is an employment-route statement, not a blanket promise of internship eligibility, English-only selection, or visa sponsorship for every country. [S7]

Development and applications engineering

A development-oriented application should show a clear specification, a design decision, and evidence of testing. An applications-oriented application should add the customer's operating context. The same component can be a good choice in one design and a poor choice in another, so avoid a comparison that considers only one favorable datasheet metric.

ROHM's public Solution Simulator provides a practical research resource. Its update history includes inverter, converter, amplifier, protection, and thermal-management examples, with new circuits added during 2026. [S11] An applicant can use an appropriate example as a starting point, then document their own assumptions, modifications, and comparison. Using a public reference design is legitimate; presenting it as original work is not.

A useful interview artifact could show what changes when load, input voltage, or a component choice changes. Explain why the simulated result is plausible and what a bench test would still need to establish. Simulation is a preparation tool, not a substitute for safety training or an invitation to experiment with dangerous voltages without supervision.

Japanese internship evidence: dates and format matter

For a student comparing opportunities, duration matters. A short workplace-experience program can be useful for exploring a function, but it is not equivalent to a ten- or twelve-week production assignment. Compare expected ownership and learning outcomes rather than award the same weight merely because both use the internship label.

Technology map for applicants

ROHM's May 2026 newsletter describes development of fifth-generation SiC MOSFETs and a claimed reduction of approximately 30% in on-resistance at a junction temperature of 175°C compared with the previous generation. The same newsletter describes an NFC-compatible wireless-power chipset for compact wearables. These are specific product claims and conditions, not universal efficiency improvements for every circuit using a ROHM component. [S3]

The company's discussion with a power-systems customer addresses both 800 VDC and ±400 VDC architectures for AI-server infrastructure. It explains potential roles for silicon and SiC devices, power-control ICs, and related products. The discussion includes development and production plans, which should not be treated as proof that every planned deployment has occurred. [S4]

For a power-electronics candidate, the useful preparation is to connect device behavior with a system trade-off. A lower device loss may affect thermal design or power density, but the circuit, operating point, switching behavior, and other components still matter. Explain the conditions under which a recommendation works and which measurements would be needed before using it in a real design.

A student interested in sensing or compact electronics can instead examine the constraints of a small wireless-powered system: physical size, received power, load behavior, and the user interaction. The point is to identify a tractable engineering question, not to claim knowledge of an unreleased internal roadmap.

Production technology, quality, and internal software

The domestic manufacturing reorganization and Japanese program categories make production-related work an important research area. [S2, S8] A student should distinguish process development, equipment automation, quality analysis, and assembly operations. Each may use data and software, but they differ in their constraints and expected deliverables.

For an automation or internal-software project, define the process before proposing the tool. Who supplies the input, which exception is expensive, who approves a change, and how will the organization know that the new process is more reliable? A working prototype that ignores access control or a manual exception may not solve the actual operating problem.

The OneCareer web-application example supports asking whether a particular placement includes internal digital work. [S9] It does not establish a standing software-engineering cohort. Ask for the likely assignment, the level of production access, and how the supervisor will decide whether the output is ready to use.

For a quality-oriented applicant, a small analysis with traceable records and a defensible comparison can be persuasive. Show how you handled missing measurements and distinguish a possible cause from a proven one. Do not label a defect-rate change an improvement unless the measurement process and sample are comparable.

Commercial and business pathways

ROHM's recruiting material explicitly includes sales and marketing among its functions, while the power-systems discussion describes the tension between customer-specific solutions and common platforms. [S1, S4] That creates a relevant research angle for business students: how does the company translate technical capability into a product a customer can adopt economically?

A preparation case can compare a narrowly customized solution with a more standardized offering. Discuss development effort, customer concentration, support needs, and the evidence required to estimate demand. Keep the assumptions separate from observed facts. A product-market argument is stronger when it explains why a customer would change an existing design and what could prevent that change.

Do not infer an undergraduate marketing opening from the existence of a sales office. The candidate still needs a specific posted role or a confirmed local program. Technical customer work may require engineering knowledge even when the organization is described as commercial.

Show how a component choice changes the system

Compare two public or academic component options against the same requirement. State the assumptions, the unfavorable condition and the test still needed. For an operations or commercial route, connect the choice to a fictional supply or customer-support problem. Keep your student recommendation separate from qualified engineering approval.

Hypothetical preparation exercise, not an employer assessment or a verified internship assignment.

Research context

ROHM is a semiconductor and electronic-components company headquartered in Kyoto. Its official recruiting material describes integrated circuits, discrete components, and modules, with work in design, development, manufacturing, sales, and marketing. Students should view it as a collection of product and production disciplines rather than one uniform electrical-engineering job. [S1]

The recruiting observations below retain the dates in the underlying research. They are not a live vacancy list.
