Where the data comes from

Roles come from the current employer-source catalog release. Source times are preserved; expired availability is removed. Missing pay, eligibility, dates, or locations remain unknown. Open a role for its source and verification details. How our listings work.

State spending: US Bureau of Economic Analysis, 2024 personal consumption expenditures, released September 26, 2025. Amounts are per resident, per year, and include third-party spending. They are not a living-cost price index or a personal budget.

Map: us-atlas / US Census 2017 cartographic boundaries, Albers USA projection. Reviewed city points: US Census 2025 Gazetteer. Representative points are kept as published; they are not employer office addresses.

How to use

Compare places for your internship

Compare roles, employers, and published pay across places you’re considering. Then use housing quotes and travel estimates to work out what living there could cost.

  1. Explore the map

Switch between states and reviewed city locations. Zoom in, focus a place, or choose it from the location menu.

  2. Build a comparison

Add up to three states to compare. You can keep exploring other places without losing your selection.

  3. Look behind the numbers

Compare role counts, employers and published pay. Open an employer or place to inspect the actual internships.

Good to know

Are the city markers employer office addresses?

No. Reviewed listing locations are matched to official Census representative points. City coverage is partial, and some coastal points sit offshore. Roles without a reviewed city point can still appear at state level when their state is known.

Does higher state spending mean my internship will cost more?

Not necessarily. The 2024 BEA figure is annual spending per resident and includes spending paid by third parties. It is broad context, not a local price index or a student budget. Use actual quotes and your own needs for personal cost decisions.
