BCG publishes three AI-ship periods for 2027, but not a fixed application deadline
BCG’s current Germany/Austria AI-ship page lists three program periods in 2027: spring, summer and autumn, with up to three start dates. The standard AI-ship lasts eight or ten weeks; mandatory internships can run up to twelve weeks.

This is a consulting internship, not a short insight event. BCG says participants join an interdisciplinary project team from day one, take on Associate-style tasks and work with clients on strategic applications of artificial intelligence.
The reviewed AI-ship page does not publish the exact 2027 start dates or a fixed application closing date. It also does not publish an AI-ship-specific salary or stipend, housing or travel support, or a work-authorization rule. Keep those fields unknown until the live application or employer page states them.

You do not need prior consulting experience, but BCG does expect practical experience
BCG says AI-ship applicants can come from any academic discipline or university. The published academic-stage rule starts with Bachelor students from the third semester and also includes students in the main phase of Diplom or Magister study, Master students, PhD candidates and professionals.
The employer page asks for genuine interest in strategic AI questions. BCG says that interest can be shown through coursework, internships, extracurricular activities or initiatives you started yourself. It also names analytical ability and communication skills as selection signals.
BCG explicitly says prior consulting experience is not required. That is not the same as no experience required: the FAQ says applicants are expected to have professional experience such as industry internships and engagement beyond their studies. Strong academic performance and initial international experience are also described as important.

AI-ship and the regular Visiting Associateship share the consulting format, but not the same intent
The regular BCG Visiting Associateship is the broader Germany/Austria consulting internship. It runs for eight or ten weeks, or up to twelve weeks for a mandatory internship, and places students on a real client project without limiting the project to AI.
| Dimension | BCG AI-ship | Regular Visiting Associateship |
|---|---|---|
| Project focus | Strategic AI client work | General consulting client work |
| Duration | Eight or ten weeks; mandatory internships up to twelve | Eight or ten weeks; mandatory internships up to twelve |
| 2027 timing | Spring, summer or autumn periods | Year-round application; fixed start dates |
| Applicant discipline | All academic disciplines | All academic disciplines |
| Prior consulting experience | Not required | Not required |
| Published application timing | No fixed AI-ship deadline stated on reviewed page | Apply no earlier than six months before desired start |
AI-ship uses the same consulting-internship stage but adds a specific strategic-AI focus. BCG describes client questions such as where a company should begin with AI, which levers could create the most impact and how AI could change a business model. It also adds AI-focused insight sessions, networking with Tech & Digital Advantage colleagues and personal mentoring.
BCG says candidates may apply year-round for the regular Visiting Associateship and should send that application no earlier than six months before the desired start date. Do not copy that six-month timing rule onto AI-ship: the reviewed AI-ship page publishes its 2027 seasonal periods but does not state the same application-timing rule.
The application is document-heavy: grades, transcripts and work records matter
BCG asks AI-ship applicants for a tabular CV including grades and copies of the relevant academic and employment records, including school, Bachelor, Master, Diplom/Vordiplom, PhD, internship and work certificates when applicable. The CV is uploaded separately; the remaining documents can be combined into one file.
Applicants select one of BCG’s eight Germany/Austria offices under location preferences. BCG’s Germany/Austria careers page currently lists Berlin, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Cologne, Munich, Stuttgart and Vienna.
Application documents may be submitted in German or English. Before submitting, check that the academic dates, grades, internship claims and AI-related evidence in the CV are consistent with the uploaded records. Do not infer a cover-letter requirement or a fixed 2027 deadline when the reviewed AI-ship page does not state one.
FAST FORWARD is a possible recruiting consequence, not a guaranteed conversion
BCG says outstanding AI-ship participants can receive a full-time offer after the internship. If BCG makes that offer, the participant is automatically admitted to FAST FORWARD, the firm’s talent-retention program.
The employer page describes FAST FORWARD benefits including individual mentoring, trainings and workshops, recruiting-team contact and a newsletter with firm updates. The AI-ship FAQ also says participants receive detailed feedback and a certificate at the end of the internship.
Keep the condition intact when describing the pathway. Completing AI-ship does not itself guarantee FAST FORWARD admission, a full-time offer or any later internship. The published trigger is a very strong evaluation and BCG making the offer.

Choose AI-ship when the AI strategy focus is actually part of your story
AI-ship makes the most sense when you can explain why strategic AI questions are the part of consulting you want to test. That evidence does not have to be a prior AI job: BCG itself points to coursework, internships, extracurricular work and self-started initiatives.
If your interest is broader consulting rather than AI strategy, compare the regular Visiting Associateship instead of forcing an AI narrative. If you are earlier than the third Bachelor semester, keep building evidence and target programs whose academic-stage rules fit now.
When BCG publishes exact 2027 AI-ship start dates, an application cutoff, compensation or work-authorization terms, update this same canonical rather than creating a second annual page.
