Career Kickstarter is the five-day route for final-years and graduates

Optiver describes Career Kickstarter as a five-day program for STEM students and recent graduates ready to move toward full-time roles in trading, technology or quantitative research. It is hands-on rather than a general company presentation: participants work through role-specific problems with Optiver’s full-time education team and receive feedback during the week.

Possible recruiting outcomeStrong performers may receive a full-time offer at the end of the week; not guaranteed

The standing page calls the experience all-expenses-paid and says strong performers may receive a full-time offer at the end of the week. All-expenses-paid is travel-and-program support, not evidence of a salary or wage for attending the five-day program.

The standing page does not publish one universal Career Kickstarter date, application deadline, graduation window, GPA rule or work-authorization rule. Location-specific requisitions control those fields when a cohort opens.

Technology, Trading and Quantitative Research lead to different work

Technology is the Software Engineer pathway. The standing page describes an engineering challenge built around trading context, system design and core technical concepts, followed by team-based design, build, test and iteration work with performance, reliability and low-latency execution in view.

Choose the track by the work you want Optiver to observe
TrackPathwayWork emphasized
TechnologySoftware EngineerSystem design, engineering trade-offs, team project, build/test/iterate, performance and low latency
TradingTraderPricing, market flow, risk, fast decisions, trading games and open outcry
Quantitative ResearchResearcherMarket datasets, modelling, algorithm design, statistics and experiments

Trading is the Trader pathway. Participants practice pricing with incomplete information, responding to market flow, managing risk and updating decisions through trading games, open-outcry sessions and repeated feedback.

Quantitative Research is the Researcher pathway. Participants use real-market datasets in lectures, workshops and bespoke data projects involving mathematical modelling, algorithms, statistics and experimentation.

The current Amsterdam Trading 2026 cycle is already past its application deadline

Optiver’s current Amsterdam Career Kickstarter — Trading 2026 requisition lists the program for November 30 through December 4, 2026. Applications closed at 17:00 CEST on September 20, 2026, with the online assessment due by 23:59 CEST that day. Because this guide was checked September 23, that deadline is past even if an employer page still displays an Apply control.

AudienceFinal-year students at European universities; exact requisition conditions apply
Prior finance/trading experienceNot required for this Trading cohort
SelectionOnline assessment, then technical interview for progressing candidates
Future recurrenceOptiver says it expects more Career Kickstarter programs in spring 2027; exact dates are not yet stated on this requisition

The same requisition says Optiver expects to run more Career Kickstarter programs in spring 2027 and offers a register-interest path for future dates. That is evidence of recurrence, not a published spring 2027 date or deadline.

The Trading 2026 requisition is for final-year students at European universities and gives its own graduation, geography, travel-authorization and selection rules. Those conditions belong to that Amsterdam Trading cohort and should not be copied onto Technology, Quantitative Research or a future office-specific cohort.

Career Kickstarter and FutureFocus sit at different recruiting stages

FutureFocus is Optiver’s five-day program for first- and second-year students and points toward a possible fast-tracked summer internship offer. Career Kickstarter is aimed at later-stage STEM students and recent graduates and points toward a possible full-time offer.

The two programs can look similar because both use five-day technical learning, hands-on exercises and direct exposure to Optiver. The useful distinction is the next role. If you still need an internship before graduation, FutureFocus is the earlier route. If you are near graduation and ready to be evaluated for a graduate role, Career Kickstarter is the later-stage route.

Neither program makes the recruiting outcome automatic. Use the exact application or later role posting as the controlling source for dates, eligibility, compensation and authorization requirements.

Prepare for the track, not for generic finance trivia

For Technology, prepare one project where you can explain architecture, performance constraints, debugging and a trade-off you changed after testing. For Trading, practice probability, numerical reasoning and making a decision when information is incomplete. For Quantitative Research, prepare to explain how you formed a hypothesis, tested it on data and decided whether the result was useful.

Those are preparation directions based on the work Optiver says the tracks contain, not leaked assessment questions. The current Trading 2026 requisition confirms an online assessment followed by a technical interview for candidates who progress, but another track or office may use a different process.

If your target Career Kickstarter cohort is not open, register interest where Optiver offers it, compare the earlier FutureFocus route if it fits your academic stage, and keep applying to the graduate or internship role family that matches your timeline instead of waiting on one five-day program.
