Keep three questions separate
Is the cited document the correct version? Does it support the proposed statement? Has the authorized reviewer accepted the change? Answering yes to the first does not establish the other two.
For preparation, create a fictional product-information sheet and evidence index. You can demonstrate that separation without attempting to certify a real product or interpret a regulatory requirement. The following example concerns a nonclinical test result, not a product claim approved for use.
The source is real within the exercise; the claim still goes too far
A fictional information sheet says, 'The unit operates for at least eight hours under all conditions.' Its cited test note T-17, version 2, records three educational prototypes at one setting and room temperature: 6.8, 7.1 and 7.0 hours. It neither shows eight hours nor tests all conditions.
A review note could read: 'The proposed statement is not supported by the cited test. T-17 v2 covers three units at one setting, with recorded runtimes of 6.8–7.1 hours. Please determine what statement, if any, is justified and whether further evidence is required.'
A draft factual description for review could report those observations and conditions. It should not be presented as an approved label merely because its wording is narrower.
- Record the product-sheet version and the exact changed sentence.
- Link T-17 version 2, not an unversioned filename or the superseded version 1.
- Record the reviewer, decision and any resulting document version. Keep an unanswered review question visibly open.
Make the handoff clear enough to act on
Submit the before-and-after sheet, evidence index and short change log as one work sample. The index should let a reader retrieve the evidence behind each statement. The log should show whether the change was proposed, reviewed or accepted, rather than treating every edited sentence as approved.
A precise project description is: 'Compared a fictional product note with its cited test results, identified unsupported scope and recorded the review questions with versioned evidence.' Use your own example when applying. This demonstrates a junior contribution without claiming regulatory authority.
In an interview, ask which product categories you would support and who reviews the intern's work. A role with a clear document workflow and feedback can teach more than a vague promise of exposure to global regulation.
Before you apply
- Eligibility
- Read the required scientific, engineering or other background on the actual role. A certificate named in one vacancy is not a universal entry requirement for regulatory internships.
- Timing
- Use the employer's student listing for the term. A general regulatory-careers page does not establish a student vacancy or its closing date.
- Location
- Identify the product category and markets the team supports. A device-labeling assignment and a pharmaceutical submission assignment can involve different documents and reviewers.
- Pay
- Compare the actual student rate and hours. Postgraduate professional fellowships and full-time regulatory positions are different offers.
