Identify the variable the team can actually change
ASML's technical-field overview spans chemistry, materials, physics, optics, and engineering. That breadth is a reason to read the assignment closely. A materials-focused student and a controls-focused student may both fit the company but should not send the same project pitch.
For each posting, identify the measured outcome and the inputs the team controls. Is the project about variation, throughput, defects, calibration, or uptime? Your cover note can then connect one course experiment to the relevant question. Avoid claiming process expertise from recognizing the name of a manufacturing technique.

Analyze variation with a clearly labeled synthetic experiment
Create a synthetic dataset representing repeated measurements under several process settings. Include a batch effect and measurement noise deliberately. Fit a simple model, inspect residuals, and explain why a correlation would not establish a causal process improvement. Then propose the next small experiment. Keep the work computational; do not attempt hazardous fabrication or chemical procedures outside an appropriately supervised facility.
- Provide the data-generation assumptions and mark every result as simulated, not factory evidence.
- Separate within-batch variation from changes between batches before recommending a setting.
- Show one confounding variable that could make an apparent improvement disappear.
Ask about access to data and supervised experiments
A useful internship needs a tractable engineering question and someone able to review your reasoning. Ask how interns obtain data, how experiments are approved, and what training precedes laboratory or cleanroom work. On your resume, name the measurement, the analysis method, and the decision it informed. Do not substitute an unexplained percentage improvement for the underlying evidence.
- Confirm whether the project is primarily analysis, equipment work, or supervised process development.
- Ask whether shift or customer-site work is part of the placement.
- Clarify how confidential production data will be handled in academic reports and presentations.
Before you apply
- Eligibility
- Look for a match between the actual process and your engineering, materials, chemistry, or physics preparation. Verify required laboratory experience and degree level rather than treating all semiconductor roles as electrical engineering.
- Timing
- ASML's U.S. page describes roughly three-month summer internships as well as academic-term co-ops. Follow a current posting for dates; the program description is not a live opening.
- Location
- Check the specific fabrication, development, or equipment site. Ask about cleanroom training, shift expectations, and transport instead of assuming an office-style schedule.
- Pay
- ASML describes hourly pay and conditional relocation support for its U.S. program. Confirm the amount, eligibility, and payment timing on your own offer before making housing commitments.

Job titles to search
- Process engineering intern
- Look for a particular manufacturing step and its measurable process window.
- Equipment engineering intern
- Look for tool behavior, maintenance analysis, reliability, or process-support responsibilities.
- Process integration or yield intern
- Look for analysis connecting multiple steps to a device or manufacturing outcome.

ASML U.S. internships
ASML's U.S. internship route is a concrete starting point for semiconductor-equipment work. Read whether the assignment is engineering development, customer support, or operations.
Search: process · equipment · internship
Keysight students and graduates
Keysight's student route includes manufacturing and R&D. Use it for adjacent process-measurement and manufacturing searches, not as an assumption that it operates the same kind of fabrication internship.
