Build this work sample
Analyze an aggregate public justice-system dataset. Define the event being counted, distinguish cases from people and examine how missing or changing reporting practices affect trends. Write a memo that separates description from causal claims. Do not use identifiable case records or attempt to investigate a private person for a portfolio.
A test that makes the sample credible
Check whether the dataset counts cases, events or people before calculating a trend. Change the reporting window and inspect whether the result holds. Keep the memo aggregate and educational, with no private-person investigation or claim that the analysis establishes why an individual acted.
This is an editorial preparation exercise, not an employer assessment or a claim that a program assigns this work.

Legal operations, compliance support and document research
Undergraduate legal-related work can include document organization, legal operations, compliance research and administrative support. It is not equivalent to practicing law or to a law-student summer associate position. Search legal intern with degree filters, legal operations, compliance intern, paralegal assistant and regulatory affairs support. The BLS paralegal and legal assistant profile provides context for supervised support work.
Public policy, government and regulatory research
Policy internships can involve legislative research, program analysis, stakeholder correspondence, public records and administrative work. The employer might be a public agency, legislative office, research organization or a company’s policy team. The BLS political scientist profile describes a research occupation that often requires advanced study; undergraduate policy internships are a separate route and should be evaluated on their own requirements.
Business analytics and decision support
Business analytics is useful when it changes a decision. That can mean investigating a decline in conversion, estimating a capacity constraint or reconciling two reporting systems before a manager acts. Search business analyst, operations analyst, decision science, business intelligence and analytics intern. The BLS operations research profile describes a more mathematical neighboring occupation; not every business analytics internship requires optimization or advanced modeling.
Social research, user insight and evaluation
Social research skills can support evaluation, customer insight, community research and organizational studies. Search research assistant, qualitative research, evaluation, insights and social science intern. The BLS sociologist profile explains the professional research occupation; it is not a statement that undergraduate internships require or confer the same qualifications.

Background
Criminal Justice students can investigate policy, legal operations, program delivery and research. An internship does not automatically involve law-enforcement powers, and those powers should never be implied in an application. Choose a setting that provides appropriate supervision and a defined learning objective. Evidence handling, privacy and procedural accuracy matter even when the work is administrative.
