Build this work sample

Choose a narrow customer problem and design a low-cost validation plan. Interview potential users with permission, document what they currently do and distinguish stated interest from a concrete commitment. Build a simple unit-economics model and explain what evidence would justify stopping the idea. A credible negative conclusion is stronger than an unsupported claim that you found a large market.

A test that makes the sample credible

Create an evidence table with separate columns for a compliment, a stated intention and a completed action. Do not combine them into a single validation score. Write the smallest next experiment that could disprove the idea before spending more money, including the cost you are willing to incur to learn that.

This is an editorial preparation exercise, not an employer assessment or a claim that a program assigns this work.

Consulting, commercial strategy and project analysis

Consulting and strategy work begins with a question a decision-maker needs answered. The task may involve costs, market entry, organization design or an operating problem. Search consulting intern, strategy analyst, business transformation, commercial strategy and advisory. The BLS management analyst profile explains the occupation; undergraduate internship access and assessment formats vary by employer and practice.

Marketing, consumer research and growth analysis

Marketing internships differ sharply between market research, brand work, performance channels, lifecycle communication and sales support. Search the function, not just “marketing.” The BLS market research analyst profile provides background on understanding customers and evaluating markets, but does not imply that every marketing position is an analytical research role.

Business analytics and decision support

Business analytics is useful when it changes a decision. That can mean investigating a decline in conversion, estimating a capacity constraint or reconciling two reporting systems before a manager acts. Search business analyst, operations analyst, decision science, business intelligence and analytics intern. The BLS operations research profile describes a more mathematical neighboring occupation; not every business analytics internship requires optimization or advanced modeling.

Corporate finance and investment analysis

Corporate finance asks how a business performs and how it should allocate resources. Investment analysis asks what an asset may be worth, what can go wrong and whether the expected return compensates for that risk. A company’s planning team, a lender and an investment manager may all advertise an “analyst” internship while evaluating very different decisions. The BLS financial analyst profile is useful occupational background, not evidence that an internship accepts every business major.

Application and offer checks

Read the actual duties and entry conditions before choosing which version of this project to submit. For the routes above, use the posting to confirm the degree level, return-to-study rule, work location and dates. The linked program pages are starting points, not verified 2027 vacancies.

Compare the stated pay unit, paid weeks, location, transport and housing support. No current internship pay range is established here; occupational median wages are not intern pay. Confirm supervision and any school-credit requirements before accepting.

Background

Entrepreneurship students should search for a function they can contribute to, not just for startups. Early-stage teams need specific work: customer research, operating analysis, product support, financial planning or sales operations. A broad founder-associate title can be useful, but only when responsibilities, supervision and pay are clear. Your strongest evidence is a completed experiment or operating project with honest results, including what did not work.
