Build this work sample

Prepare a fictional hotel operating case with rooms available, occupancy, room rates and staffing needs. Examine a demand peak that improves revenue but creates service delays. Propose a staffing or scheduling response and show its cost. Explain how you would monitor guest experience without treating one satisfaction score as a complete measure of quality.

A test that makes the sample credible

Model one sold-out night and the quieter days around it. Separate room revenue from the staffing and service consequences of the peak. Compare two responses to late arrivals or delayed room turnover, and make the operating assumptions explicit rather than treating higher occupancy as an unqualified improvement.

This is an editorial preparation exercise, not an employer assessment or a claim that a program assigns this work.

Hospitality, events and guest operations

Hospitality internships can involve guest operations, rooms, food and beverage, events, revenue support or corporate functions. These pathways have different schedules and measures of success. Search hospitality intern, hotel operations, event operations, revenue management and food-and-beverage intern. The BLS lodging manager profile provides occupational background, not a claim that a student intern independently manages a hotel.

Operations improvement and service delivery

Operations work concerns the movement of work through a real system: orders, people, machines, cases or appointments. Search operations intern, process improvement, service operations, continuous improvement and planning analyst. The BLS operations research guide describes one analytical route; many practical operations internships rely more on observation, spreadsheet analysis and implementation than on advanced optimization.

Marketing, consumer research and growth analysis

Marketing internships differ sharply between market research, brand work, performance channels, lifecycle communication and sales support. Search the function, not just “marketing.” The BLS market research analyst profile provides background on understanding customers and evaluating markets, but does not imply that every marketing position is an analytical research role.

Corporate finance and investment analysis

Corporate finance asks how a business performs and how it should allocate resources. Investment analysis asks what an asset may be worth, what can go wrong and whether the expected return compensates for that risk. A company’s planning team, a lender and an investment manager may all advertise an “analyst” internship while evaluating very different decisions. The BLS financial analyst profile is useful occupational background, not evidence that an internship accepts every business major.

Application and offer checks

Read the actual duties and entry conditions before choosing which version of this project to submit. For the routes above, use the posting to confirm the degree level, return-to-study rule, work location and dates. The linked program pages are starting points, not verified 2027 vacancies.

Compare the stated pay unit, paid weeks, location, transport and housing support. No current internship pay range is established here; occupational median wages are not intern pay. Confirm supervision and any school-credit requirements before accepting.

Background

Hospitality Management can lead to property operations, events, food and beverage, revenue support or corporate analysis. The best route depends on whether you want to learn service delivery firsthand or analyze the business behind it. A hotel’s finance team and a front-office internship can both be valuable, but they develop different skills. Ask how much of the placement is structured learning and how much is routine shift coverage.
