Build this work sample

Design a fictional onboarding process for a company hiring seasonal staff. Map the tasks, owners, dependencies and data permissions. Create an exception report for missing steps and a short survey that measures whether new employees can perform the required tasks. Explain why satisfaction alone would not establish that the training worked.

A test that makes the sample credible

Introduce a missing approval and a new hire who cannot access a required system. Trace who sees the exception and who resolves it. A useful onboarding measure tests whether the person can complete a task; distinguish that result from whether the person liked the training.

This is an editorial preparation exercise, not an employer assessment or a claim that a program assigns this work.

Human resources and people operations

Human resources internships can cover recruiting operations, learning and development, compensation analysis, employee experience or people systems. These are not interchangeable with general office administration. Search people operations, HR analyst, talent acquisition, learning and development and compensation intern. The BLS human resources specialist profile provides occupational context for recruiting and employee-related processes.

Business analytics and decision support

Business analytics is useful when it changes a decision. That can mean investigating a decline in conversion, estimating a capacity constraint or reconciling two reporting systems before a manager acts. Search business analyst, operations analyst, decision science, business intelligence and analytics intern. The BLS operations research profile describes a more mathematical neighboring occupation; not every business analytics internship requires optimization or advanced modeling.

Information systems and enterprise technology

Information systems work connects a business process with the software and data needed to run it. This can include requirements, enterprise application configuration, implementation testing and reporting. Search systems analyst, business systems, enterprise applications, implementation and IT analyst internships. The BLS computer systems analyst profile explains the bridge between organizational needs and technical systems.

Writing, editing and communications

Writing and communications internships can involve editorial research, technical explanation, internal communication, copywriting or content operations. Search editorial intern, communications intern, content strategy, technical writing and copywriting separately. The BLS writers and authors profile supplies occupational background; a portfolio and the employer’s actual work often matter more than the broad title.

Background

Human Resources Management is strongest when you show that you can run a careful process involving people and sensitive information. Recruiting, compensation, learning, employee relations and HR systems require different kinds of work. Choose two related routes and build evidence for them. A thoughtful process analysis or training evaluation is more persuasive than a general statement that you enjoy working with people.
