Build this work sample
Take a student organization or fictional service business and map a recurring process that misses deadlines. Identify the bottleneck, clarify ownership and propose a measurable change. Build a simple dashboard with a small number of defined measures. Include a review date and the evidence that would show the change made the process worse.
A test that makes the sample credible
Assign one owner to each missed handoff and test the proposal when that owner is absent. Compare completion reliability before adding more dashboard metrics. Explain which change you would trial first and why its effect can be observed without reorganizing the entire team.
This is an editorial preparation exercise, not an employer assessment or a claim that a program assigns this work.

Operations improvement and service delivery
Operations work concerns the movement of work through a real system: orders, people, machines, cases or appointments. Search operations intern, process improvement, service operations, continuous improvement and planning analyst. The BLS operations research guide describes one analytical route; many practical operations internships rely more on observation, spreadsheet analysis and implementation than on advanced optimization.
Human resources and people operations
Human resources internships can cover recruiting operations, learning and development, compensation analysis, employee experience or people systems. These are not interchangeable with general office administration. Search people operations, HR analyst, talent acquisition, learning and development and compensation intern. The BLS human resources specialist profile provides occupational context for recruiting and employee-related processes.
Consulting, commercial strategy and project analysis
Consulting and strategy work begins with a question a decision-maker needs answered. The task may involve costs, market entry, organization design or an operating problem. Search consulting intern, strategy analyst, business transformation, commercial strategy and advisory. The BLS management analyst profile explains the occupation; undergraduate internship access and assessment formats vary by employer and practice.
Business analytics and decision support
Business analytics is useful when it changes a decision. That can mean investigating a decline in conversion, estimating a capacity constraint or reconciling two reporting systems before a manager acts. Search business analyst, operations analyst, decision science, business intelligence and analytics intern. The BLS operations research profile describes a more mathematical neighboring occupation; not every business analytics internship requires optimization or advanced modeling.

Background
Management is a broad degree, so the recruiting task is to make your contribution specific. Operations, people programs, commercial analysis and project coordination are realistic functions to investigate. Do not apply as though a management major automatically prepares you to supervise a team on day one. Instead, demonstrate how you organize work, diagnose a problem and help someone make a better decision.
