Build this work sample
Write a decision memo on a bounded organizational question involving conflicting objectives. State the options, assumptions and strongest argument for each. Identify which disagreement is factual and which concerns values or priorities. Recommend a decision rule and explain a case in which your recommendation would change.
A test that makes the sample credible
State the strongest objection to your preferred argument and revise the conclusion to meet it. Separate an ethical premise from a factual assumption that would need evidence. The sample should clarify a decision without implying legal, clinical or organizational approval authority.

Public policy, government and regulatory research
Policy internships can involve legislative research, program analysis, stakeholder correspondence, public records and administrative work. The employer might be a public agency, legislative office, research organization or a company’s policy team. The BLS political scientist profile describes a research occupation that often requires advanced study; undergraduate policy internships are a separate route and should be evaluated on their own requirements.
Writing, editing and communications
Writing and communications internships can involve editorial research, technical explanation, internal communication, copywriting or content operations. Search editorial intern, communications intern, content strategy, technical writing and copywriting separately. The BLS writers and authors profile supplies occupational background; a portfolio and the employer’s actual work often matter more than the broad title.
Legal operations, compliance support and document research
Undergraduate legal-related work can include document organization, legal operations, compliance research and administrative support. It is not equivalent to practicing law or to a law-student summer associate position. Search legal intern with degree filters, legal operations, compliance intern, paralegal assistant and regulatory affairs support. The BLS paralegal and legal assistant profile provides context for supervised support work.
Business analytics and decision support
Business analytics is useful when it changes a decision. That can mean investigating a decline in conversion, estimating a capacity constraint or reconciling two reporting systems before a manager acts. Search business analyst, operations analyst, decision science, business intelligence and analytics intern. The BLS operations research profile describes a more mathematical neighboring occupation; not every business analytics internship requires optimization or advanced modeling.

Background
Philosophy is most persuasive in recruiting when rigorous reasoning is attached to a practical question. Policy, research, legal support and communication can use that preparation, but employers need evidence beyond a claim to think critically. Show how you define terms, expose an assumption and revise a conclusion when the evidence changes. Pair the degree with a concrete method such as document analysis, statistics or structured writing.
