Build this work sample

Model replenishment for a fictional product with variable demand and a supplier lead time. Compare a lower-inventory policy with a more resilient one. Introduce a late shipment and calculate which orders become difficult to fulfill. Write a recommendation that includes the cash tied up in stock, the service consequence and the data you would need to improve the decision.

A test that makes the sample credible

Delay the supplier by one replenishment cycle and rerun both policies. Report units short, cash committed and which demand assumptions dominate the decision. A recommendation that only wins with perfect delivery is a different recommendation from one that remains usable when the supplier is late.

This is an editorial preparation exercise, not an employer assessment or a claim that a program assigns this work.

Supply chain, procurement and logistics

Supply chain work includes sourcing inputs, planning inventory, moving goods and coordinating suppliers. Procurement is not the same as warehouse operations, and demand planning is not the same as transportation. Search procurement intern, supply planning, demand planning, logistics analyst and distribution operations separately. The BLS logistician profile explains the broader lifecycle of moving and supplying products.

Operations improvement and service delivery

Operations work concerns the movement of work through a real system: orders, people, machines, cases or appointments. Search operations intern, process improvement, service operations, continuous improvement and planning analyst. The BLS operations research guide describes one analytical route; many practical operations internships rely more on observation, spreadsheet analysis and implementation than on advanced optimization.

Business analytics and decision support

Business analytics is useful when it changes a decision. That can mean investigating a decline in conversion, estimating a capacity constraint or reconciling two reporting systems before a manager acts. Search business analyst, operations analyst, decision science, business intelligence and analytics intern. The BLS operations research profile describes a more mathematical neighboring occupation; not every business analytics internship requires optimization or advanced modeling.

Corporate finance and investment analysis

Corporate finance asks how a business performs and how it should allocate resources. Investment analysis asks what an asset may be worth, what can go wrong and whether the expected return compensates for that risk. A company’s planning team, a lender and an investment manager may all advertise an “analyst” internship while evaluating very different decisions. The BLS financial analyst profile is useful occupational background, not evidence that an internship accepts every business major.

Application and offer checks

Read the actual duties and entry conditions before choosing which version of this project to submit. For the routes above, use the posting to confirm the degree level, return-to-study rule, work location and dates. The linked program pages are starting points, not verified 2027 vacancies.

Compare the stated pay unit, paid weeks, location, transport and housing support. No current internship pay range is established here; occupational median wages are not intern pay. Confirm supervision and any school-credit requirements before accepting.

Background

Supply Chain Management offers several distinct starting points: sourcing, planning, transportation, inventory and distribution operations. Your preference should depend on the work, not just whether an employer ships physical products. Supplier-facing commercial work differs from forecasting; both differ from supervising a warehouse process. The degree becomes persuasive when you can explain a trade-off among service, cost, working capital and reliability rather than optimizing one number without regard to the others.
