Harn describes all internships as paid, with a $2,500 stipend per term for about 10–12 hours per week. Specific requirements and time ranges belong to the individual project descriptions, so do not invent one universal prerequisite list for every department.
The Spring page currently lists projects across curatorial, development, marketing and public relations, visitor engagement, registration and education. Read the project you want before tailoring the application.

Choose the department by the output you want to practice
Collections data and registration work ask for different evidence than visitor engagement or communications. A careful spreadsheet cleanup can support a records-oriented application; a public program or clear piece of explanatory writing may be more useful for visitor-facing work.
| Evidence you already have | Project direction to inspect | Useful question |
|---|---|---|
| Careful spreadsheet or information cleanup | Collections data or registration | What records will be checked, and who approves changes? |
| Research and clear explanatory writing | Curatorial | What collection or research question will the work support? |
| Audience-facing communication | Visitor engagement or community programming | Who is the audience, and what will the intern help deliver? |
| Visual or written communications | Social media or web promotion | What format, audience and review process apply? |
For curatorial projects, ask what collection, research question or interpretive output the intern will support. For registration, ask which records or objects the intern will help document and who approves changes. For communications, identify the audience, format and review process instead of assuming the task is general social media.
These comparisons are application-planning aids, not admissions formulas. The individual Harn project description controls the actual qualifications and duties.

Make the semester commitment concrete before accepting
Put classes, travel time and recurring obligations on a weekly calendar before you offer availability. Harn's general program description says about 10–12 hours per week, but each project can publish its own time ranges or meeting needs.
Do not divide the $2,500 stipend by an assumed semester length and present the result as Harn's advertised hourly wage. Ask about the project's required hours, payment timing and any conditions before using the stipend in a personal budget.
If academic credit matters to you, ask your school what needs approval before the placement begins. Paid status and academic-credit status are separate questions.

Prepare one example that fits the department you selected
For a records-oriented application, describe an actual error you found, the source you checked and how you handled uncertainty. For a public-facing application, explain how you made information understandable to someone unfamiliar with it. Keep the claim proportional to the work you actually did.
Review the live Harn project description immediately before submitting because department-specific requirements can differ. A broad museum interest statement is weaker than a concrete explanation of why the project's tasks match the evidence you can show.
Submit through Harn's Spring application route by October 15. Save the exact project description and the materials you send so you can prepare for a later interview without guessing what the role originally asked for.
