Map the part of the business the team covers

Salesforce describes sales operations as focused on sales-team processes, while revenue operations connects functions such as marketing, sales, customer success and finance. Neither title guarantees a particular assignment.

For a concrete example, Sprinto's Revenue & Operations Intern description reviewed on September 17, 2026 names work with customer success, renewals, sales, finance and product. It is labeled Bengaluru and remote; that does not establish permission to work from the United States.

Ask which stages you would work on: qualification, opportunities, agreements, onboarding, renewals or payment. Then ask what you would change or produce in those stages.

Example: a $130,000 report contains only $60,000 of open pipeline

The fictional export below contains a duplicated Beta opportunity and a lost Gamma opportunity. Simply adding the amount column produces $130,000. Removing the repeated Beta snapshot leaves $100,000 of distinct opportunities; excluding Gamma leaves $60,000 open.

Fictional opportunity export at one reporting time
Opportunity IDAccountAmountStatus
A-1Alpha$20,000Open
B-1Beta$30,000Open
B-1Beta$30,000Repeated copy of the same snapshot
G-1Gamma$40,000Closed-lost
D-1Delta$10,000Open

The duplicate is established by the same opportunity ID and snapshot, not by the repeated company name. A real customer can have several legitimate opportunities. Preserve the raw export and explain each exclusion.

Weighted pipeline is another calculation, not booked revenue

Give Alpha, Beta and Delta assumed win probabilities of 50%, 20% and 80%. Weighted open pipeline is $20,000 × 50% + $30,000 × 20% + $10,000 × 80% = $24,000.

Keep the $60,000 open-pipeline amount and $24,000 weighted estimate separate from signed business, recognized revenue and cash. Ask where the probabilities came from and whether expected closing dates are current. A precise spreadsheet result does not make assumed win rates reliable.

Do not mix this month's leads with older leads' outcomes

This month's new opportunities may have come from inquiries received months earlier. Dividing them by this month's inquiries does not measure a single cohort's conversion. Define the starting group and the observation window first.

For a fictional 30-day conversion measure, suppose 100 inquiries include 30 that converted, 50 that reached day 30 without converting and 20 still inside their observation window. The final rate is not settled at 30%: it could end between 30% and 50%, depending on those 20 pending outcomes. State the pending count instead of calling them failures.

Prepare a reconciliation someone else can follow

Use synthetic accounts to build a raw export, cleaned view and short explanation of the row identifiers, timing and exclusions. Show the $130,000-to-$60,000 reconciliation before presenting the forecast.

Ask the internship manager: ‘Which report or workflow is currently unreliable, who owns its source records, and would I help fix the underlying process?’ A role that lets you investigate the inputs and see the correction used offers different learning from repeatedly formatting a dashboard.
