Start here: the current Elevate requisitions close October 4, 2026
RSM’s live 2027 Elevate postings are unusually easy to misread because the job title also names a Summer 2028 internship. The reviewed employer requisitions for Tax, Assurance, Process Risk & Controls Consulting, Technology Risk & Controls Consulting and Financial Services Consulting each show an October 4, 2026 end date. Treat that as the application deadline for the current observed requisitions, not as a universal deadline for every future RSM early-career program.
| Question | Current employer-backed answer |
|---|---|
| What is Elevate? | An elective professional-development program built around a leadership conference and continued development; it is separate from internship employment. |
| Current application deadline | October 4, 2026 on each of the five reviewed RSM Elevate + Summer 2028 internship requisitions. |
| Conference timing | RSM calls it a three-day conference and publishes January 5–8, 2027. |
| Format/location | Conference in one of RSM’s major office locations; the exact location depends on the linked requisition/track. |
| Elevate pay | No compensation for Elevate participation. |
| Conference costs | RSM says conference-related travel and participation expenses are covered after admission. |
| Later internship pay | Separate from Elevate. The reviewed Tax, Assurance and multiple consulting requisitions publish $34–$40/hour compensation ranges for the internship role. |
| Academic program | Currently enrolled in an accredited accounting degree program. |
| Career timing | Anticipated full-time associate start date of Fall 2029 or Winter 2030. |
| GPA | Minimum 3.4 GPA is preferred, not stated as an absolute required floor in the reviewed requisitions. |
| Prior internship requirement | Not stated. |
| Internship credit-hour condition | 90 credit hours completed at the point of the Summer 2028 internship. |
| Work authorization | Current requisitions say RSM does not intend to hire entry-level candidates who require sponsorship now or in the future. |
| Application relationship | Applying for Elevate also applies the student for the linked RSM client-service internship. Elevate itself remains separate from internship employment. |
RSM calls Elevate its premier early-career program for high-performing accounting students. The program begins with what RSM describes as a three-day leadership conference in one of its major office locations and lists the conference window as January 5–8, 2027. Preserve both pieces exactly: the employer calls it three days while publishing a January 5–8 range. Do not invent which date is travel-only or otherwise reconcile the difference without a new employer source.
The conference is followed by continued development experiences across the year. RSM names relationship-building, communication, collaboration, business acumen, executive presence, problem-solving, presentation, feedback, time management, technology and professional networking among the development areas.
One requisition covers Elevate and a later internship, but they are not the same experience
RSM says directly that by applying for Power Your Future: Elevate, you are also applying for an RSM client-service internship. That makes this different from a normal employer summit where a student attends first and only later starts a separate internship application. Here, the current requisition already names the Summer 2028 internship track.
Do not collapse the two stages on a résumé or in planning. RSM says Elevate is voluntary, separate from internship employment and does not create an employment relationship before the internship. Participants do not perform client services or other productive work for RSM during Elevate. Compensation begins only when internship employment starts.
The safest interpretation is procedural: the application is bundled, but the January program is still a professional-development experience rather than paid client work. The reviewed postings do not say that simply attending the conference, by itself, guarantees continued employment independent of the linked selection process. Use the exact offer/requisition language you receive rather than assuming a conversion rule that RSM has not published.
Check the 2029/2030 full-time start date before using a class-year label
RSM’s current program requirement is not written as “sophomores only.” It asks applicants to be enrolled in an accredited accounting degree program and to anticipate a full-time associate start in Fall 2029 or Winter 2030. Your graduation plan, CPA-credit plan and intended full-time start matter more than what your school informally calls your class year.
The postings also ask for demonstrated involvement and leadership in student organizations or the community, teamwork, strong communication and an interest in client-focused professional services. A prior internship is not listed as a requirement. That makes campus leadership, class projects, part-time work, volunteer responsibilities and other concrete evidence usable when you have not yet held a formal accounting internship.
Separate the requirements that apply now from requirements that apply at the later internship. The reviewed requisitions state 90 credit hours completed at the point of the internship, a bachelor’s degree path and an accounting major. Some consulting postings add role-specific preferences such as CPA progress. Do not reject yourself in September 2026 because you have not yet accumulated the credits RSM explicitly anchors to the 2028 internship date.
RSM lists a minimum 3.4 GPA as preferred. “Preferred” is not the same as a hard eligibility cutoff. If your GPA is below 3.4, the posting does not establish an automatic prohibition; your application still needs to satisfy the actual requirements and compete on the evidence RSM names.
Choose the Summer 2028 track you actually want before you submit
The current Elevate application is attached to a specific Summer 2028 client-service role, so track choice is not cosmetic. The five employer requisitions reviewed for this guide cover Assurance, Tax, Process Risk & Controls Consulting, Technology Risk & Controls Consulting and Financial Services Consulting. This is an observed set as of September 22, 2026, not a claim that no other Elevate requisition exists.
| Linked track | What the later internship is oriented toward | Reviewed requisition |
|---|---|---|
| Assurance | Financial statements, audit/assurance work and client engagements. | JR120934 |
| Tax | Tax planning/research, returns and tax accounting work. | JR120932 |
| Process Risk & Controls Consulting | Internal audit, SOX/compliance and financial-reporting control projects. | JR120925 |
| Technology Risk & Controls Consulting | Technology risk, controls and related consulting work. | JR120923 |
| Financial Services Consulting | Risk/control work across financial institutions, capital markets, insurance, fintech/specialty finance and asset management. | JR120926 |
Assurance is the cleaner fit if you want financial-statement and audit work. Tax is the cleaner fit if you want tax research, planning, returns and related accounting work. Process Risk & Controls focuses on internal audit, SOX/compliance and financial-reporting controls. Technology Risk & Controls moves toward technology, systems and control environments. The Financial Services Consulting posting places the same risk-and-controls toolkit inside financial institutions, capital markets, insurance, specialty finance/fintech and asset management.
Pick based on the 2028 work, not which January conference description sounds most interesting. Read the responsibilities in the exact requisition you will submit. If you cannot explain why that later client work interests you, the bundled application is forcing a decision you have not finished making.
Build the application around evidence of leadership, communication and client judgment
Because the application is for both an early-career program and a later client-service internship, write for both horizons. Your evidence should show that you can contribute in a January development setting now and plausibly grow into client work by Summer 2028.
For leadership, name the decision you owned rather than only the club title. For communication, describe the audience, the information they needed and what you changed to make it usable. For teamwork, use a situation where responsibilities were divided, something went wrong or priorities conflicted. For client orientation, a campus organization, service job or class project can work if another person depended on the accuracy, timeliness or clarity of your output.
If you have no prior accounting internship, use accounting coursework and operational evidence rather than apologizing for the missing title. Reconcile a student-organization budget, explain a financial-statement project, document a control you improved, analyze a messy spreadsheet or show how you handled confidential information. RSM does not list prior internship experience as an Elevate requirement in the reviewed postings.
Do not wait until the January conference to decide which service line you want. The October application is already tied to the 2028 track. Spend ten minutes reading the later internship responsibilities and make your application examples legible to that team.
Treat Elevate as a selective development program, not as work experience
The credible immediate signal is selection into and participation in RSM’s structured early-career program. RSM describes a conference, direct relationships with professionals and peers, and continued development in business acumen, problem-solving, presentation, feedback, technology and professional presence. It explicitly says participants do not perform productive client services during Elevate.
After you actually participate, a precise résumé label is “RSM Power Your Future: Elevate — Participant” or the exact program name shown in your materials. Describe only activities you completed. Do not write “RSM Intern” for the January program, do not count conference time as client experience and do not attach the later internship pay rate to Elevate.
The stronger downstream signal comes if you later start the Summer 2028 internship. That is when the employer relationship changes into paid internship employment and track-specific client work begins.
Submit the right requisition before October 4, then keep building track-specific proof
First, confirm that the full-time start-date window and accounting-degree requirement fit you. Second, choose the 2028 track. Third, check the exact Workday requisition again before submitting because locations, compensation ranges and closing status can change independently even when the Elevate description is shared.
After applying, keep building evidence that matches the later role. Assurance applicants can practice financial-statement reasoning and audit assertions. Tax applicants can document tax/accounting research. Risk applicants can map a process, identify a control and explain a failure mode. Technology-risk applicants can connect that control thinking to systems, access, data or change management.
If you are earlier than the Elevate timing window, RSM Explore is the cleaner discovery-stage page on InternshipDeadlines. If you are ready for paid work now, use the current RSM listing search rather than treating Elevate itself as an internship opening.
