Match the field, not the most favorable number
Use the institution-reported figure. These examples show how different questions produce different answers; the numbers are fictional.
| Your record | Question | Response |
|---|---|---|
| Cumulative 3.12; major 3.65 | Cumulative GPA | 3.12, with the correct scale |
| Prior college 3.70; no grades at the new university | Current-institution GPA | Use a truthful not-yet-available option, or ask support |
| Official GPA 2.96; stated minimum 3.0 | Do you meet the minimum? | Do not round yourself into eligibility; check any published rounding rule |
| GPA 8.2 on a 10-point scale | GPA and scale | 8.2/10; do not invent a 4-point conversion |
When the form forces you to enter a number
Check the help text and whether the form has a no-GPA option. If neither resolves it, send the recruiting or application-support contact the field name and your actual situation. Do not guess a number just to get past the screen.
Message to adapt: 'I transferred this term and do not yet have a GPA at my current university. The application requires a numeric current-institution GPA. My prior college reports 3.70/4.00. How should I complete this field, and which transcript should I provide?'
A company's programs can have different thresholds
NASA's published comparison lists a 3.0/4.0 GPA for OSTEM and 2.9/4.0 for Pathways. The programs also have other conditions. Check the particular program and announcement rather than searching for a single 'NASA GPA requirement'.
A required application field and an optional résumé entry are also different. You can leave an optional GPA off a résumé, but that does not remove a threshold or excuse an unanswered required field. A qualifying GPA establishes only that part of eligibility, not the likelihood of an offer.

Check four things before uploading
Read which institutions are required, whether unofficial records are accepted, the document deadline and the permitted file type. A current-school transcript does not automatically replace a requested prior-school record.
Open the file and check your name, institution, grades and complete page sequence. Order an official transcript only when the application requires one; otherwise use the accepted document type. Keep each school's GPA separate unless the employer supplies a calculation method.
Explain an unusual record only where it helps
Use an optional explanation field for a relevant fact, such as transferring before your first graded term. You do not need to disclose private family or medical information to explain that no grades exist yet.
Before submitting, compare the GPA and graduation date across your résumé, form and transcript. If new grades arrive later, update the application through the employer's stated process rather than submitting a conflicting second application.
