Freshman Discovery is built for the stage before a finance resume

Citi describes Freshman Discovery as a U.S. virtual introductory program lasting three days. The standing program page places it in May, with applications opening in late March or early April. It does not publish the next exact application deadline or exact next program dates.

Eligibility is broad: first-year students in four-year bachelor’s degree programs at U.S.-accredited institutions can participate regardless of major. Citi particularly encourages students with limited prior exposure to financial services. That is not the same as a published statement that 'no experience is required,' so keep the wording precise.

What the three days actually give you

Citi says Freshman Discovery includes introductory training, workshops, foundational technical skills and financial-services industry insights. Treat that as orientation plus skill-building rather than compressed employment.

The standing page does not promise a client project, graded case, certificate, return offer or automatic Summer Analyst interview. Use the program to decide which business areas deserve deeper study and what skill or project you should build next.

Attendance is real evidence, but the stronger signal comes next

After you actually complete the program, a truthful resume label is 'Citi Freshman Discovery — Participant' with the virtual format and date. Describe only the training, workshops or business-area sessions your edition actually included. Do not write Citi Intern, Summer Analyst or another title that implies employment.

Then turn one topic from the program into a small piece of work you can defend: a one-page company comparison, an accounting exercise, a market note using public data, a short risk memo or a cleaned dataset with a written conclusion. Keep the independent project separate from the Citi program entry.

Freshman Discovery, job simulations and Summer Analyst roles are different routes

Freshman Discovery is broad first-year exploration. Citi’s Forage job simulations are self-paced virtual learning experiences with work-style tasks and completion certifications. They can give you something concrete to finish while you wait for the next Freshman Discovery application window, but they are not Citi employment either.

Choose the Citi route that matches your current stage
RouteBest useWhat it is not

Summer Analyst roles are separate full-time internships that Citi generally targets to penultimate-year students. Exact role pay, deadlines, locations and work-authorization rules come from the current requisition.

Use the waiting period before the next application window

Build a one-page resume that works without an internship. Use coursework, paid work, campus responsibility, research, volunteering and projects, and write bullets around what you actually did rather than the organization name alone.

Pick one finance question you can investigate and finish one small piece of work. Decide what you want Freshman Discovery to clarify. Then recheck Citi's live pre-internship and events surfaces in late March and early April instead of reusing an old deadline.

If you are already a sophomore, compare Citi Early Identification or current internship routes instead of stretching the first-year rule. Freshman Discovery does not need to lead to another Citi program, and no current source promises a guaranteed interview or offer.
