Four different evidence states
The table preserves conditional support, explicit no-relocation wording, applicant responsibility and missing information. It does not rank the programs. A source saying that an applicant must have housing is not an employer promise to provide it, and a missing statement is not an explicit refusal.

| U.S. Department of Energy — SULI | conditional | Housing arrangements vary by laboratory; qualified travel is reimbursed under program rules. Upfront payment is not promised. | |
| U.S. Department of Energy — Community College Internships (CCI) | conditional | Qualified housing and travel support follows laboratory and program rules; a flexible schedule does not automatically extend housing support to 16 weeks. | |
| Dominion Energy — Intern — Power Contracts & Origination | not stated | No housing or relocation commitment coded from this source. Ask about the exact role. | |
| Dominion Energy — Intern — Electric Transmission Services | not stated | No housing or relocation commitment coded from this source. Ask about the exact role. | |

The exact requisition controls its own terms. A general student-benefits page is not automatically attached to every role at the employer. Where support is qualified or laboratory-specific, that qualification stays visible.
Separate the form of support from its value
Ask whether the employer arranges housing, pays an advance, provides a stipend or reimburses an expense. Each can produce a different cash requirement before arrival. Confirm qualifying distance, worksite, approved expenses and any repayment condition where applicable. Do not assume a benefit from a different location transfers.
If accommodation is arranged, ask what is included and whether you must pay a deposit or other costs. If reimbursement is offered, ask when claims can be submitted and when payment normally occurs. If a stipend is quoted, confirm its unit and whether the stated amount is before deductions. The comparison cannot answer those missing details by inference.
A benefit can leave an immediate funding gap
Original example: travel and move-in costs total $2,020 and you have $600 available. A promised $1,000 reimbursement paid after arrival would reduce eventual net cost, but the pre-arrival cash gap remains $1,420 until funds are actually available. Counting the future reimbursement as present cash would hide the problem.
If $1,000 is instead confirmed as an advance received before the bills are due, the same immediate gap falls to $420. The amount is identical; timing changes feasibility. Both scenarios are fictional and neither is an employer offer.
A refundable deposit still uses cash while held. Keep refundable amounts separate from expenses, but do not omit them from the dated cash schedule.
Read support as a scoped statement
This resource is built from the same small research cohort used by our other comparison pages. Purposive sample of 24 named program or requisition records reviewed September 16, 2026. It mixes explicitly dated 2027 programs with general program descriptions and undated-cohort requisitions. It is not a vacancy census, employer ranking, eligibility determination or estimate of market-wide pay or disclosure. Unknown values remain unknown. Records from one employer or program family are not independent observations.
A row represents the named program or requisition, not an employer-wide policy. Repeated employers, shared program pages and different country scopes remain visible. The sample was selected to investigate useful differences, not randomly sampled to estimate what all internships offer. The downloadable JSON preserves field-level source references and explicit missing values.
This comparison measures what was coded from particular public sources, not all benefits an employer might offer privately. It does not infer benefit values, tax treatment or payment dates. Conditional assistance is not included as guaranteed pay, and an explicit no-relocation field is not generalized to every possible benefit or every role.
Resolve the arrangement before committing to housing
Ask the recruiter or program coordinator a bounded question that names the role and worksite. Request the actual benefit terms and timing rather than a general assurance that interns are supported. Preserve the response and use it alongside the offer documents.
Do not make a nonrefundable booking based only on a generic careers page. Keep an alternative plan if support is pending or your eligibility is unresolved. A school funding application can be another route, but a pending award is not confirmed cash.
Finally, compare the commute, schedule and work itself. Assistance can make a placement feasible; it does not by itself establish that the opportunity fits your academic or career needs.
